Spring is officially here, which means hailstorms are more common than ever. Even the smallest hail can damage your vehicle. Color Customs Collision is here to help. Here are a few steps that you can expect when bringing your car to Color Customs Collision after getting hail damage.
Here at Color Customs Collision, our goal is to make the process as smooth as possible for you. In any hail event, we are likely to see multiple vehicles coming through the shop with the same damages. However, every vehicle is different, and that changes the way we approach the repairs and the time it will take. Here are some things you need to have prepared before you enter the shop, and what you can expect.
What Do I Need to Do with Insurance?
To get started, we will need the insurance estimate from your insurance company. Once a technician starts repairs, they may find additional dents, damages, or the original repair method may change. If needed, we will file a supplement for the additional damage and changes. Before proceeding, we will need to receive approval from the insurance company. Once a supplement is submitted, repair times and completion dates may change drastically.
COMMON ESTIMATED REPAIR TIMES:
- PDR ONLY: 3-7 DAYS
- PDR AND CONVENTIONAL: 1-2 WEEKS
- CONVENTIONAL AND LRG. REPLACEMENT PARTS: 2-4 WEEKS
What is a PDR Repair?
Paintless Dent Repair, or PDR, is a technique in which we work from the bottom of the dent using specialized tools to remove the dents while preserving the original paint and finish of the vehicle. Paintless Dent Repair is a process that removes dents and other blemishes from the body without the need for paint or body fillers. This process enables us to restore your vehicle to its original condition in a fraction of time that a conventional body shop will take to repair your vehicle.
What is a Conventional Repair?
Conventional repair involves using a sander to remove paint, moving the metal back into shape, and then filling in the remaining gaps. The specialist will then sand the area and spray the area with paint to match the rest of the vehicle.
Hail claims can be unpredictable, and in a large hailstorm, we will receive a large volume of traffic into the shop. Estimated completion dates are not guaranteed and may have to be changed throughout the repair.
